About Tarn Graphics

Richard Gill

I started Tarn Graphics because I want to offer businesses truly bespoke design in a very down-to-earth way.
For me, design has to work. Art for art’s sake is all very well but design, by its very nature, has a job to do.
This purpose-driven approach is behind every project we take on. With over thirty five years in design, retail and marketing I have a broad base of experience to draw upon having worked for some of the World’s largest brands such as Ford Motor Company and Harrods.
Based in Wiltshire I’m able to work in a relaxed and rural environment which is perfect for the creative process. I trust that you’ll find it a pleasant and enjoyable experience working with us.

Designing Your Logo

For some reason graphic designers are often viewed as an odd bunch, and logo design has even been referred to as a Dark Art by some. Alex Polizzi being one of them.
However, we find that if we take the time to explain to your client what you’re doing and why, then anyone can understand the design process. The creative bit is still very much the domain of the designer, that’s how we’re wired-up, but the rest is quite straight forward.

What’s The Process?

Let’s talk. We want to understand what it is you want to achieve. We also want to know about your company, who you are, what you do, where you operate, who your customers are, how those customers view your brand, your products, and whatever else might be relevant to the project.
At this early stage we find that a good old-fashioned conversation is by far the best thing. Emails and texts can wait; for now, let’s talk it through. Once we’re both happy that we have a good understanding of your requirements we'll outline them in a written brief. This brief will be the reference point for your project.
From here we will produce a selection of initial concept artwork, designed to generate feedback and get things going. What usually happens next is a series of conversations as we discuss the concepts, your likes and dislikes and how they might be worked in. From here we begin to distil the concepts down to one working design, which can then be developed and crafted into your final logo.

What happens if you don’t like the initial concepts?

If you’re not happy with the concept designs then not to worry, we simply repeat the process with you and work until we're all happy with the result. However, it is worth pointing out that there are almost infinite variations on any design, but this is why we have the brief; to keep us all on track. Although it’s rare, the brief itself can change once the project is underway and the client begins to think more deeply about it. Should this happens, we simply produce a revised brief and continue from there.

How long does it take?

Once the concept design has been approved we will present you with a digital version of it for further discussion and approval.
Arriving at the finished design will depend on how quickly we are able to gain feedback from yourself. The timescale is very much affected by the type of project, but we will always suggest a suitable time-frame in which to complete the work.
We will keep you informed of progress by scheduling regular updates for the duration of the project, usually once a week.

What does it cost?

Each and every project we take on is different, whether that be the design of a logo or a selection of graphics. Our time can be spent doing a variety of things, from research and photography, to visiting the printers to selecting materials and far more. Therefore, once we have had a chat about your requirements we will give you a fixed quote for the entire project, which will also be included in the final brief. However, if you then wish to add to the project, we’ll simply give you a quote for those additions.
